Migraine Headaches?
Question : Migraine Headaches?
I just found out from a cat scan that I’ve been having migraine headaches, did anyone know that you can tell that from a cat scan?
Well, the medicine prescribed causes drowsiness and I have 2 young children so I can only take my medication at night, does anyone know any natural remedies I can use or something that might help with these severe migraines?

Try applying pressure to your head, applying an ice pack to the forehead, or taking a hot shower….I feel your pain, you’ll try anything, these sometimes work for me.

I really feel your pain. I was put on medication for them and It actually made my migraines so much worse and had an adverse effect on my blood vessels (i felt like I was having a heart attack)
I now have paramax. That has panadol and something else for migraines. I just take it when I feel them coming on. It works like Paracetamol, you take it every 4hours and it doesn’t make you tired. Ask your doctor, it may be called something else in USA.

I did not know that migraines would show up on CAT scan either. Thanks for educating me.
Botox injections are the only thing that has consistently helped my migraines. Even then, if the doctor misses the trigger point, it doesn’t work (lucky for me, my doc will re-do it if she misses). The bad thing is that it only lasts me 8 weeks and costs 300 not covered by insurance. At least it does work.

I think the first step is avoidance of anything that is causing pain if you can. When I get them I can’t stand light especially florescent lighting with the buzzing so I try to seal myself off in my room.
Unfortunately I can’t always control my enviorment so distraction tends to help too. Thinking about the pain only makes the pain worse. So meditation, working out, talking to someone (try and be nice to them), or try getting so deeply involved into something that it takes your focus away.
I can suggest is getting your scalp rubbed. Not only your temples but the top, sides, cheeks, and the nasal passage are areas to focus on.
If you are trying to go the natural medicine way… I haven’t tried but maybe something like belladonna (buy at drug store) that will slow you down a bit and just relaxe you. Just keep in mind not to take too many -

They’re the worst things in the world, I know! I can’t take several of the medications that are suppose to help migraines due to a heart condition. BUT……I know what triggers mine, as mine are food related. If I feel like I’m getting one, I take 2 Excedrine Migraine pills, lay down in a quiet dark room with a cold cloth on my forehead. If I catch it in time, that usually does the trick. Excedrine Migraine has caffeine in it, so it won’t cause you to be drowsy at all. I have worked with an herbalist to find relief. About the only thing naturally that works is if you boil Burdock root and make a tea out of it. I’ve tried this and found some relief but the Excedrine works much better and much faster. Good luck!

I never knew a CAT scan could show that at all… Weird!!! I understand, I have medication that makes me drowsy for mine too (Tramal). The best thing I found is prevention in trsing to stop a migraine from happening. I would recommend a massage on your back and neck for an hour once a week or fortnight, to get out any tension that may be building up. Getting a massage regularly has really helped and now I only need to get a massage once every six months or so, and rarely get migraines. Of course, everyone is different, but I think the best way to get rid of them is by sleeping and unfortuantely taking thos sleep inducing tablets. I wish you much luck though and my heart goes out to you, I do understand your frustration at this. All the best

Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily – magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.
Now to the cause – muscles – your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.
The cure – start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).
