Is there a way for a 24 hour sensor to monitor blood sugar level?
Question : Is there a way for a 24 hour sensor to monitor blood sugar level?
I was wondering if someone could invent or had a way to monitor blood sugar all the time, maybe a sensor put in the body with minor surgery like a heart monitor or pace maker?

Several companies are working on this.
Currently a sensor can be placed subcutaneously – sking surface – to give continusous blood sugar readings.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a noninvasive blood glucose monitoring device for adults, children, and adolescents with diabetes. Noninvasive monitoring means checking blood glucose levels without puncturing the skin for a blood sample. The GlucoWatch G2 Biographer, manufactured by Cygnus Inc., was approved to detect glucose level trends and track patterns in people with diabetes. It must be used along with conventional blood glucose monitoring of blood samples. The device, which looks like a wristwatch, pulls body fluid from the skin using small electric currents. It can provide six measurements per hour for 13 hours.

There are a few continuous glucose monitoring systems on the market – Google them, they’re worth checking out.
So far they haven’t got the greatest reviews, although improvements are coming in leaps & bounds.
Not sure if this is really what you mean, but it’s a great start. I’m sure that in the future everybody with diabetes (or any blood sugar issue) will have a small & easy CGMS at hand. At least, I hope so!

I saw on The News the other day about new inventions they are working on something like a contact that goes in your eye and all u have to do is look in a mirror at anytime to see your sugar level. It is suppose to be out in 4-5 years. As for as I know there isn’t anything out now that will do that.
