I am paying twice the premium on my nursing home insurance than my friend. Am I getting screwed?

There are too many factors that could complicate situations that look similar on the surface.

As the others have suggested – differences in your health status, gender, age, how long the policy has been in effect, etc. – could all be coming into play.

Also, a plan that looks to be equal on the surface may not be so equal. Your friend might have a cap on benefits that you haven’t taken into consideration, etc.

If you want to be certain, find out from your friend where he/she purchased the policy. Get a quote from that broker/company on the same type of policy, and see how it compares. Either you’ll find out that your friend’s policy is the better deal, or you’ll find out that there’s something about you that’s more expensive to insure.
