Question : I am about to see a sedation dentist. Why is this such a novel concept? I only recently heard of it.?
I’ve neglected my teeth and seeing a dentist for years because of fear of pain. Now sedation dentistry seems to be gaining in popularity, but it should be a given for all dentists. Why is it such a novelty?

Dental offices have been offering the option of sedation for years. There are traveling anesthesiologists for this purpose. Most people opt not to do it because of the out of pocket cost.
However dentists are advertising this service because many patients are unaware they have the option. It has become more readily available as other forms are able to be administered by the dentist like a liquid or pill form instead of the traditional IV. Isn’t it less scary knowing you don’t have to go through ‘scary’ dental procedures?
