How can I work towards my physical therapy degree before / outside of college?
Question : How can I work towards my physical therapy degree before / outside of college?
I’m heading off to a state public university this fall to start on general ed; before I transfer in a semester or two to work on my physical therapy degree at a better college. I’m just looking for things that would give me a head start, for example I’m thinking of getting CPR certified maybe some other things that would help anything health related..

You can stay at the state public university. It is fine. You need to get good grades at least a 3.5. You need to get your pre reqs completed. You need volunteer hours at a PT clinic. You can work as an aide in PT. You can get cpr certified but you will need that anyway. Try to get into a reasearch lab or gait lab and collect data.
Our local state school which has a PT school offers an exercise science major that has an intership requirement. We talke those students at our clinic, so they have oportunity to experience PT before going to PT school. We are a pediatric clinic. Out latest ES student ran several health fair booths. She re did our hands for parents on exercise and fitness. She ran our walking program at a few schools. She also observed many hours. She also did an inservices. She is ahead of the game when she gets to her peds clinical. She created several home programs for kids that she can put in her portfolio. They were outstanding.
