Well then I would argue that the faculty of engineering – and all the natural sciences – should introduce a quota system also.
Men aren’t exactly breaking the door down to learn the fine art of dental “hygienistry” because dental “hygienists” don’t earn a very high salary. Same thing applies to every other ‘Pink Collar Ghetto’ job
You guys like to whine too much.

The doors are open- male applicants are definitely NOT turned away. They stand a better chance of getting in than female applicants. Encouraging diversity and quotas are two different things.
As for DH not being a high income job I disagree. It pays as much as nursing. AND all men DO NOT WANT TO BE doctors or dentists instead – they don’t want the responsibility or work hours or educational committment required.

Men are always welcome to join these professions and all applicants are considered equally. The majority of these applicants are women because men usually choose not to join a profession that is the majority is mostly female, their choice. Men do well in these professions as I have witnessed men in the healthcare field that do a mighty fine job and glad to have them.

Quotas do not encourage diversity: They encourage a strictly defined system. The key to diversity is taking only the best and refusing to discriminate on any basis. If most of the applicants happen to be members of a certain segment of the population and there is no evidence of systematic discrimination, it’s not the end of the world.

More males are going into nursing. Boys are just not encouraged to go into traditionally females positions. I think the fact that these males are unfairly questioned about their sexual preferences and many nasty jokes have been directed at men that choose non traditional jobs may have something to do with it.
