Question : Going away to eating disorder rehab soon, should i tell my friends the truth?
I’m scared they’ll think I’m a freak. also, it will be so embarrassing to come back to school and have everyone in the eighth grade know where i was. it’s bad enought having to come back FAT! i’m 66 pounds now at 4’11 and they’re making me get to upper 80s. i’ve only told my best friend, who said she’d miss me a lot because I’m going to be attending school at the rehab center:(

Only tell the friends you trust.
Sit them down and try to explain to them.
Real friends should be there for you,
just think of the consequences if you tell the wrong person.

Hopefully when you get back you will KNOW that for your height you will still be skinny. I have had some bad luck telling “friends” about my illness. I have had especially bad luck when i am actively sick. So my advice is just keep this little secret to yourself. Make up something, like maybe you had to relocate for a bit to stay with an aunt that was sick or your dad had to go for his job somewhere and you went too. A lot of times when people know you have a problem they just don’t want to be around you anymore or don’t understand. Basically people can be pretty intolerant and maybe you don’t need that hurt right now. Good luck sweetie.

No, I dont think its necesssary for you to tell your friends the truth, this is your own personal struggle and if divulging such personal information makes you feel uncomfortable then you don’t have to. Plus, when you do heal, which I really hope you do, you don’t always want to be labeled by your past.

Your true friends, will be the ones that stick by your side throughout this process. True friends will not gossip and help you get through this.
I really hope you get better. My best friend is struggling just like you and it can be difficult. Tell the people who you trust, they will be your support systems. You can overcome this, believe in yourself, my prayers go out to you and your family.
