Floridan Aquifer – Save the Florida aquifer that our voices be heard!
Florida aquifer, Floridan aquifer is technically known as one of the largest aquifer systems and productive in the world. Florida Aquifer provides water for irrigation, domestic, industrial and agricultural, livestock, plants, animals and especially drinking water , the vast majority of Florida in Apparently state. for this reason, the Floridan aquifer, a natural resource of utmost importance to be protected against the use treated aquifer storage and recovery wells and injection wells for the injection of some sewage.  Â
A
aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) is the injection of untreated or partially treated water, that quality standards met for drinking the water or groundwater directly into the aquifer through an injection well for later ASR use. Or, at least in the U.S. state of Florida, that was the original intention when I it. The concept aquifer understand the storage and recovery to Florida Department of Environmental Protection is that the aquifer functions as a storage room where water plentiful.  When water is in high demand because of shortages, the injected water can then be used as drinking water, irrigation or other use. The level of treatment after storage depends on the use of water, whether for public consumption be recovered from drinking water, enhancement. the increase of surface water, irrigation or wetlands At this moment there are 18 aquifer storage and recovery well fields in Florida were about 65 of these wells, according to the Department of Environmental Protection. Â
like a reasonable solution to a lack of water sounds when you do it right, laws, rules and regulations are complied with, but not always case. Today, TCS is apparently no longer on the storage and retrieval of alcohol or water quality of groundwater is limited.  As I understand it, special permits may be issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, partially treated waste water storage in the Floridan aquifer directly, our main source of drinking water by shallow wells ASR (only 500 meters deep).
is treated in many parts of Florida, in part sewage and other toxic wastes from various sources pumped into deep wells >In theory, deep well injection of waste does not affect drinking water or the environment because the injection is deep, well below the Florida Aquifer. me and many others do not believe that.  Studies have on the environment in areas where deep-well injection performed occurred. Scientific studies show that such negative effects on the aquifer in Florida, the environment, sea water, coral reefs, fish, sea turtles, sea and other life.i Other studies in progress. Â
The Floridan aquifer is an underground river surrounded by water in porous rock. the Floridan Aquifer groundwater flow through channels or veins such as caves and flows in the veins in the vicinity of the porous rock surrounding the aquifer water. . Â
water levels and water pressure vary in the aquifer than the demand for water increases and decreases. Â Â
In dry periods, using the wells for irrigation under high demand. due to low water levels and the negative pressure in the vein of the aquifer feeding the feeling well. dictates that if a vein of the aquifer under pressure because of the low water level is low, and veins in the area include high pressure because of high water levels, water flows through the walls of porous rock of the aquifer cores with high water levels to replenish vein of the low water level. Water seeks its own level, knows that.  Â
We had to believe that water is injected into the aquifer through the Florida aquifer storage and recovery wells is limited permanently to the site of injection zone can be restored and will never become a problem. is not at all true . The water mixes with water from the aquifer in the cave was injected it and flows great distances in a short time from the injection site into the vein in which it was injected, some wires through the porous walls of the aquifer, in other caves in the aquifer , and beyond that to reach the local wells, and is also known as springs on the surface of land and sea  Â
In other words, after the injection, it is gone forever and the recovery of the injected water is almost impossible. Â Â Â Â
In many parts of the state of the Floridan aquifer occurs on the surface of the earth, like springs that feed rivers and streams. Many of these sources not only on the shore, but flows in the offshore oceans and rivers around Florida. Â
Since Florida is a peninsula with the Atlantic Ocean, Florida Bay and the Gulf of Mexico borders, is a risky ASR practice, at least one that could be a very serious threat to the aquifer in Florida, our main source of drinking water, residents of Florida and the environment in general and offshore. Â Â
The growth was out of control in many areas throughout the state of Florida, the state fourth in the U.S. Due to the large and growing population, water, water for irrigation is scarce, especially during the dry season periods. Our State is easy to get any water resources or the infrastructure necessary to maintain the water treatment, population growth in some of these areas.  Many communities are still more processing technologies obsolete.
aquifer storage and recovery of waste water effluent and other waste water is a weapon of mass destruction!obtained effluent is highly toxic, known to deadly bacteria, viruses, traces of drugs and illegal drugs, many toxic chemicals, including contain endocrine disrupters, volatile organic chemicals, pesticides and herbicides, fluoride, arsenic and heavy metals such as cadmium, chromium, copper, iron, lead, mercury, and Zinc. Â
Protect yourself, your children and your pets! Â Drink meant no water from wells for irrigation ASR! Don ‘t even let them touch your skin! Â Do not drink from your garden hose!
waste water is, mammals effects of all kinds, are proven, including humans. Toxic chemicals in the wastewater cancer, reproductive problems that cause interference to the nervous system, kidneys and liver, is highly toxic to humans, especially pregnant women, infants , children, seniors and people with immune deficiency.  Â
skin eating disease is increasingly Florida. The water recovered from ASR wells for irrigation can contain the bacterium.  Â
Here in Florida we have a very valuable ecosystem. to mention various and too numerous fine, many of our plants, animals, fish and birds are at risk. The last thing we need in Florida are adverse effects on the environment with the injection of waste water and waste water into the aquifer through wells Florida RAS connected.  Â
Testimonial
mounting on the devastating effects of deep well injection of wastewater. It is obvious to many, especially for owners of private wells, beach goers, surfers, fishermen and coastal shipping divers. near the sites of deep wells were many coral reefs die irreparable damage. bloom red tide, algae aquatic plants (freshwater and saltwater) disappear, the health of the endangered sea turtle is endangered, the number of fish are declining, and marine life in general increased suffering the negative effects of deep well injection.  The essence true, shallow wells is ASR (500 – 1000 m) is even more environmentally friendly problems.Â
Recently, a new ASR wells in Rockledge, Florida built to store water from sewage and partially treated sewage effluent. The Rockledge ASR project is a sensation. The Rockledge aquifer storage and recovery in the injection and effluent wastewater project has many residents of Rockledge, and around Brevard County, and environmental groups over how much of this controversy issue. a concerned
Note: To treat my terminology, in part, any dangerous chemicals have to be clarified are not removed from the water before injection. These chemicals are usually not found naturally in the aquifer and injected certainly not in our drinking water are supply. Rockledge, a small town about 25,000 people near Cocoa Beach and Indian River Lagoon in Brevard County. many inhabitants reside in Brevard County outside the city limits of Rockledge own wells for drinking water and / or irrigation is used.  Â
The Indian River Lagoon, an ecological resource of national importance, less than half a mile from the spot.  Much of the lagoon is located within 1 mile of the well.  More than a dozen sources, presumably from the aquifer to flow directly into the lagoon. come  Â
The intention of the town for injecting partially treated sewage into the RAS and a depth of 3 m to 5 cents for watering lawns, golf used to be golf and agricultural interests in dry times. Â The city contends that the property can help guard against water shortages, tightening water restrictions, and has no impact on local wells for drinking water outside the radius used a mile. Â
Project Construction of rock laying ASR should be completed in June 2009. The city of Rockledge then permit application a permit from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to operate well. Rockledge not then injecting partially treated wastewater effluent. permission to operation of the property must be before the injection of waste water is real, can take place. It Under the law be changed, the test to determine the extent of the market to determine who takes the place of injection to other areas within the Floridan aquifer, the most important state underground source of drinking water.   Â
Being so shallow, only 500 meters, I think this is the first of its kind in the state of Florida to inject effluent. partially treated wastewater Sorry, there are two additional ASR wells under construction on the west coast of Tampa and Fort Meyers for the same purpose. Â
City Commissioners voted 6-0 approve staff project.A claim accrues wastewater will be injected into the cavity of the aquifer contained, it is injected, and also argued that it not to other areas in the aquifer or otherwise damaging effect of water-flow or neighboring wells, or create environmental problems.
The officials also claim the water to drinking water treatment standards. It Note: Drinking water standards are that many different hazardous chemicals in water were missing from the law found Clean Water and Safe Drinking Water Act was initiated many years ago. new standards must be implemented to our current standards, laws and regulations to be up to date … A number of new chemicals, pharmaceuticals, for example, have identified in tap water in the United States in recent years. A standards are not established for many of these new chemicals. A local organization called Save Our Aquifer was formed to stop the injection of sewage and other wastewater effluent from 300 to 500 meters deep, in the newly constructed 500 meters deep, a very low , ASR wells drilled directly into the Floridan Aquifer.     hundreds of owners in Rockledge involved responded to our aquifer (SOA), save Expressing concern over proposed ban on drinking water aquifer injection wells. Rockledge inhabitants are over the loss of their property and rights to water contamination of their wells and the Indian River Lagoon.ÂMembers of the Save Our Aquifer campaign against the property affected, because they fear the injection water flows from the injection site the pollution of local water supply and contamination caused environmental damage and ultimately contaminate the resource area of drinking water. Â
At this point, do many residents of Rockledge in Brevard County and the surrounding area once the property. The owners of the affected region were not directly from the ASR wells and the potential impact was on their private information wells. a public hearing held. The members of the Save Our Aquifer try the public on the risks involved.Â
Another problem is that the residents have lost water rights to be informed. Back in 2006, the city has an order banning all drinking water wells within a mile of the new well. wells used for irrigation done this in a operation. If you want to irrigate with water from arsenic contaminated and deadly chemicals?
The Citylocal fountain makes outside the radius of 1 mile is not done by the new ASR wells and defines the order prohibiting drinking water wells within one mile of an additional security measure. Â The truth is that the officials of the City of Rockledge have no idea where the injected water flows or the damage they can cause to the wells in Brevard County, Rockledge outside city limits.
The city ordinance prohibits drinking water wells within a radius of one mile of the RAS in 2006 and the city tend to conflict with the claim by the city, the waste water is to be injected or treated drinking water standards before drinking injection.Âofficials claim the project is not recharging the aquifer, or dispose of sewage effluent water. say officials, everything is on the water storage in the aquifer for a short time, during the dry time is needed for irrigation.  The dry season usually lasts about 2 months.  seem to think that they water is about 10 months before the withdrawal to wait irrigation. I think that the injected water will be gone … Â
Even cheaper than most, because Rockledge Rockledge City is actually paid for only about half of what is project.A The other half is paid by a grant from the city realize the St. Johns River Water Management District by the Florida Water Protection and Sustainability Program, with a total of 0000.00 and a further grant from the Florida Forever Water Resources Development Project “in the order of 0470.00 Â Â
From what I see on the web After reading numerous studies, judging by past performance of the deep well project, injecting waste water deep beneath the earth out to a huge amount of damage to the environment, on-and offshore industries. Â Â
This is true, as numerous shallow ASR injection directly is in the underground source of drinking water (USDW) Whole be disaster. The injected water will mix with water contained in the existing natural Floridan aquifer to be our source of drinking water destroy, will flow to other areas within the aquifer, springs, wells, and have a significant negative impact on the environment in general. He does not mention that only a small amount, if any, water injected real never recovered.  Â
If I understand correctly according to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Web site, the injected water by the standards of treatment of drinking water. The injection wells shall be so constructed, operated and maintained so that water is injected into the zone of injection. flow of water between aquifers prohibited. All ASR are expected to return well, be monitored when water was flowing to other areas, it would be detected before reaching the groundwater source of drinking water Water.  Rockledge injection treated wastewater directly to the Floridan Aquifer in,
our source of drinking water> water …
A few residents, this project goes well, a number of questions for city officials who know Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the St. Johns River Water Management District. Some questions answered.  The majority of responses were met to be very difficult to understand SEO very technical rules, regulations and technologies that a layman can not begin understand. with a lack of information, questions unanswered, responses and confusion for the questions they chose to respond, residents of Rockledge, and can not form a comprehensive understanding of the surrounding and opinions on this property and purpose.   Â
This project is not generally considered should. Â distributed fact, it seems trying Rockledge officials to keep it quiet . Â Â
In July the members of the Save Our Aquifer permit the city to meet with on private land the consent of the ownership when they people who travel could see more U.S. 1.a She refused and said that such signs would be illegal, she called “snipe” signs. Â Â
24 November 2008, the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida served the city of Rockledge, they continue the intention of the city, if Save Our Aquifer is not permitted to erect signs informing the public of ASR through the city and private property as well as US-1 and other roads where the dog owners let the characters proposed. Â
December 5, 2008 granted the city of Rockledge Save Our Aquifer permission to post “NO ASR WELL” signs on private pay property. Save Our Aquifer 0 a bond with the city and collect Rockledge Authorization forms of private landowners educated in Rockledge to display characters and the community about the issue. Â
Defense Florida aquifer is not only our right, it is our responsibility! A
Injection RAS Wastewater “Rockledge test well” (300′-500 flat ‘) has as an “experiment” with the current plan for all of Florida expand all Floridians will make in the future ! Â
If Rockledge, Florida with the help of Department of Environmental Protection, the necessary permits for this project continues to receive and you know it, it will be a model for other cities. Finally, in many other cities across the country follow their lead. Â
No one likes Fish stench of death
Rockledge aquifer storage and recovery project is in the long run expensive …. a huge tourism industry in our state. tourists come to enjoy our state, our beaches, sunbathing, fishing , diving and swimming. In just a few years in Cocoa Beach and the lagoon is the Indian shows the effects of pollution from ASR. If this happens, stop the tourists …  Neither will the money they spend in motels, Hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, shops bait shops, etc. .. Â
clean, healthy drinking water is a basic human right
injection of this mixture toxic, polluted sludge chemical contamination responsible for our only major source water. of clean, healthy drinking water ASR Damage can create injection is irreversible.  the work of government, local, state and federal efforts to protect our water. to defend and enforce our laws and regulations that drinking have water. why we have the Clean Water Act and protect clean water act.  Â
This may be an environmental disaster and economic
As a man said -. “ASR is the mother of Weapons of Mass Destruction injecting a toxic mixture of these, polluted sludge chemical contamination responsible for our single largest source of water. clean, healthy, drinking water can create ASR Damage wastewater injection, is irreversible.  Â
In Time, No One with a hole in Brevard County will be drinkable water
In South Florida, home of many of these wells have structural damage occurred. injection wells cracks in the ceiling of the aquifer caused Florida to establish the ground water which fill with sand sinkholes. sinkholes are known to be a direct pathway for pollutants into the aquifer. Â
The extreme fluctuations in water level in wells used for this end, other problems. because I said “extreme” because during the dry season, a time of high demand, a lot of water from the well is on a basis.  drawn daily during wet periods, especially when we have this frog necklaces, resulting 10 to 15 centimeters of rainfall from hurricanes or tropical storms, lots of water will be fed into the throat of the ASR and up to 180 million gallons per year. This leads me to wonder how far the water is “treated” or whether it even before the injection during this period of heavy rain …  Â
Do not just this cause can be treated structural problems of porous rock surrounding water in the Floridan aquifer, pump as much water into the aquifer on a daily basis, the prevalence of arsenic in the water increase. unsafe levels of arsenic can occur at any time of the surrounding rock of the aquifer is disturbed. Arsenic is a substance naturally in most common Florida. arsenic is present also found in many herbicides and pesticides. Arsenic has been common in Central Florida and the water in many drinking water wells.Â
Something intrigues me is why is the found St. Johns River Water Management District and Florida Forever program support, in fact, a donation to this project .  I have always felt that the St. Johns River Water Management District and Florida Forever was all to protect our resources. In fact, I thought that was Florida still all about the preservation of the natural environment and protect our country.  Â
My thoughts are that will be Rockledge in a better position to more There growth. surprised to see me ever, that local politicians are always running, by the well-being of a solution for waste their campaigns to the position of growth and then quit to justify, in the office when they vote, they all make the growth more …   support
There are other options out there for storing treated water and solve the problem of waste water. A storage area is a “much better option ….> / p
Each municipality in Brevard County and surrounding counties have similar water problems. Why not make the neighboring counties concerned to a large multi-purpose ecological reservoir to build further inland, in a partnership area.if treat water properly, drinking water standards and the pipes in. If it is subjected to dry season water for irrigation. Â
The reservoir and the surrounding areas can be used for recreational purposes purposes. water skiing, fishing, water skiing, picnicking, camping, etc. Golf is very popular here in Florida, building a golf course and country club next to the property. include a swimming pool, restaurant, tennis courts and.  pay fees for the use of facilities and profits collected restaurant and campground would be the cost of the project.  Â
The construction of a new installation of modern sewage treatment plant on the property, a situation, any treatment of the water, treat sewage input power . Â with solar energy solar energy to provide power for the entire project. Â Using solar energy would could include Federal taxes, if any, in connection with the system. Â Â
If we can afford to raise billions of our tax dollars, 350 billion to throw date, I believe, waste companies, banks and mortgage lenders who do not know clearly how to manage you money, I think that you can send the politicians can some money our way! Â I’m not financial genius and I know that sounds expensive, but it also Rockledge ASR project to something, 000,000
