Do you need dental coverage to have your wisdom teeth out?
Question : Do you need dental coverage to have your wisdom teeth out?
My husband’s wisdom teeth are causing a lot of pain. He really needs to have them out but we don’t have dental coverage. Is oral surgery covered by regular insurance or is it included in dental? We have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and we pay for it out of pocket.

Check your plan for oral surgery. When I had mine done they billed health insurance not dental insurance.
No, you don’t. Most people don’t have much dental coverage for this – you usually end up paying it out of pocket.
My dental plan, picks up about $ 500, for a maximum payout of ALL benefits, of $ 1,000 a year. So, I had a bad tooth year last year, and needed three crowns. They paid $ 1,000. I paid $ 2200.
