It is pretty simple, and straightforward, they will freeze the area around the eye/ or eyes and pop the cataract off.
normally he would go home within a couple of hours, and the doctor will probably want to see him the next day to make sure everything is OK.
Probably a good Idea to have sunglasses for him to wear, as his eyes will be light sensitive.
Don’t know where you are, but I assume somewhere in Malaysia.
Absolutely no need to send him to the USA!!
In “The Curve” in Mutiara Damansara (PJ) there’s a laser clinic which routinely carries out lens-replacement cataract operations. Can’t remember its name though (“Vista” lurks in the back of my mind). In the office block -first floor- at the same side as the Royale Bintang Hotel.
However, it’s reputed to be the #1 in Asia, and many Singaporeans travel up for the surgical procedures rather than have it done locally.
It’s a “no knife” procedure, the cataracts are removed by vibrations and then washed away.
My wife had cataracts removed from one eye a couple of years ago, and the treatment was first class.
Incidentally, if the place where your father is heading have not ALREADY checked out his blood glucose levels and blood pressure and affirmed that they’re within acceptable parameters then CANCEL the surgery immediately! This should be routine pre-surgery procedure.
This place is NOT cheap however, but everything about it, and especially the surgeons, is very professional.
Of course, it sounds like your father already has an appointment somewhere so it may be too late to change horses now, but if not, it’s worth going along to check them out.
All in all this kind of surgery is now, with modern techniques, pretty run of the mill as others have said, and nothing to worry yourself (or your father) too much about.
But again, as others have also said, it’s important to follow the post-op instructions carefully and assiduously. It would be a good idea to be with your father for the op, and to make sure you both understand fully what you need to do (and NOT do) afterwards (for a good few weeks) to ensure that the procedure is 100% successful.
