Can my health insurance bill me for monies they payed out to health care providers?
Question : Can my health insurance bill me for monies they payed out to health care providers?
My daughter was in a residential treatment center for eating disorders. She was there for 8 months. Her insurance carrier partially paid for her treatment. Now they are saying they should not have paid. I would not have been able to afford her treatment and would have pulled her out of the program. Can they take the money they gave to this treatment center back. And am I now responsible to pay the treatment center. I would have kept her there only for 2 months, because i could not afford the treatment. It seems so unfair and it will bankrupt me.

Reveiw your policy and see what it says about treatment at such facilities. If your policy covered it, it should state the limits over amount of money and legnth of time.
What a wonderful parent you are. You send your child away for 8 months because the insurance was paying for it, but if you had to pay, it would have been 2 months. In other words, you are putting a price on your daughter’s health.
If your daughter needs 8 months in the center, she needs 8 months, no matter who pays for it. If the insurance company mistakenly paid for it, but then found out it was not suppose to, they can charge you for it. If you paid $ 100 for something on a Friday and it went on sale for $ 70 the next day, wouldn’t you want a refund?
Talk to a lawyer about it. They can advise you much better than anyone here can.
