Yes providing sufficient is taken to raise 25(OH)D status above 60ng/ml.
1000iu for each 25lbs weight.
Retest after 12 weeks to check postal 25(OH)D test from
Grassrootshealth D action
UVB exposure from sun/tanning beds may be better for people with inflamed guts. Brain/gut axis means inflamed brain = inflamed gut and visa versa and poor oral uptake. -

@minimoshe Is your 25(OH)D test measured in nmol/L or is it in ng/ml?
If it’s in the 40s of ng/ml you shouldn’t be too worried, the optimal is 50-55 ng/ml. If it is in nmol/L you definately should take action to raise levels.
The most important thing is to be regularly tested so you know if the trend is up or down.
Also try your best to get out in the midday sun (preferably full body) for 10 to 15 minutes a day. Although this isn’s always practical for everyone. -

Depends latitude, urban or rural, skin color, time outdoors, weight and cholesterol leve etc.
Go to GRASSROOTSHEALTH
Look at banner graph.
4000iu/d D3 leaves many below 40ng/ml. 8000iu/d gets most above 40ng.
start with 8000iu/d for 2~3 mths.
Retest
Only if above 80ng/ml reduce intake to 4000iu.
But 1000iiu/daily usually sufficient.D3 made from cholesterol by UVB.
Statins lower cholesterol as does age.
People with higher cholesterol make more D3 from sun and live longer. -

@TheMidnightBell07 Your doctor will have provided DRISDOL or similar Vitamin D2 ERGOCALCIFEROL.
BIOTECH Vitamin D3 50,000iu CHOLECALCIFEROL is the stuff you need. Less than $30 for 100 free shipping.
See The Case Against Ergocalciferol as a vitamin supplement. Full text is free online if you search. 50,000iu/D2 =15000iu D3.
D2 also speeds up the rate of Vitamin D catabolism so some people find the more they take the lower their vit d gets. -

Skin color variation shows how important vitamin D is. Though natural selection, some of our ancestors died just because their skin was just a bit too dark as they migrated north out of Africa. The dark skin was not an efficient vitamin D absorber and it caused vitamin D deficiency. Only the lighter skin people survived as they migrated north where the sun was less direct. This is why you see skin color variation in humans, and it is proof of how important this
vitamin D is. - Comment Feed for this Post
