Will I have to stop dancing when I start my scoliosis treatment?
Recently, I went to a well-child doctors appointment and they noticed a slight curve in my back and sent me to get x-rays. The results came back as positive and more then 20 degrees.
My mother had scoliosis too when she was my age (14). I dance a lot and i want to know if i will have to stop dancing.
I will return to a back specialist near the end of april. . . Will they tell me i cant dance?

I’ve known I’ve had scoliosis for 5 years, and I go to a back doctor. He suggests:
“For small curves (15º-20º): Observation over time to see if the curve gets worse
For bigger curves (20º-40º): Bracing to try to stop the curve from getting worse
If the curve is bigger than 40º or 45º: Surgery”You said your back is more than 20 degrees, but it’s probably not getting close to 40, so if the back specialist you’re planning on seeing suggests you do anything about your scoliosis, it will most likely be that you wear a brace. You’ll be able to continue dancing if you do have to wear one, and you’ll just have to take it off during dance. People who wear braces can do anything they want. Their scoliosis doesn’t require them to stop anything unless they get pain. If your scoliosis gets to the point where you would need surgery though, you’ll have to stop after the operation, at least for a year… maybe more.

From my experience, I have not had to stop playing sports. I wear a Scoliosis brace and I still play soccer. I have a 36 degree curve and I have never even thought about not playing sports.
