More and more books are being made that are about things teenagers like, and are in simpler text. Publishers are noticing the LD market.
Once a person knows his/her reading grade level (through Accelerated Reader or another, similar program), they will have a better chance of figuring out what books are right for them to read.
You can ask a special education teacher (any good special ed teacher will have some way of measuring current reading levels), or special education private tutor (http://www.interdys.org/). A person with a reading learning disability learns to read best with individual tutoring by a highly trained reading specialist.
Once you know the reading level, then read books at, and slightly above, that level. Don’t “skim” over words that are hard… learn to pronounce them from someone, and learn what they mean.
