Should a parent have rights not to allow proper chemotherapy for her son?
I heard a story about a mother trying on practicing natural healing methods and insisted instead help to cure her son of cancer chemotherapy. The mother ran away with her son to the natural remedies that they would have really thought her son to use to heal. She was eventually caught and punished. If you had to side with the mother, how would you back up your pronunciation?

i wouldn’t. I remember that story, it was recent. The kid had like a 90% chance with chemo and very low with natural medication.
I could understand if they wanted to use some kind of untested and experimental treatment, but you don’t just stand around and let your kid die when medicine can help him.

I know the case you speak of, and there is no way to side with the mother in that case. She was not arrested for pursuing natural remedies per say, she watched as her child got worse and worse while using the natural remedies and did nothing to stop it. She was not even going to some one who was considered a doctor. Her child went from a mild case of cancer to being terminal because the mother did not do anything. Where as I have nothing against natural remedies at all. It is just common sense to try something else when what you are doing is not working. That is the inexcusable part, no that she went the natural route at first, but that she did not go a different route when that was obviously not working.
There is really no winning argument for the mother’s side. One could argue that she acted in good faith and just lacked common sense. But even that argument is slightly weak. Although its probably the only argument that exists.

I wouldn’t side with the mother under any circumstances. An adult can believe any batty idea she wants. She cannot kill her kid because of her batty beliefs.
