my boyfriend is on parole and has a drug addiction can he go to rehab without any legal consequences?
My boyfriend is on parole house arrest and he has a drug addiction he wants help he wants to go to rehab but he is on house arrest and he is worried that if his parole officer knows about his addiction he will send him back to jail. I don’t know who to contact about this. Can he tell his parole officer and there won’t be any consequences because he is seeking help or will I lose him to the drugs? Pls help us!

Yes he can get help. If he lets his parole officer know about his addiction, before drug testing, then he will be helped. The military is the same way. You cannot claim to have a drug problem AFTER you test positive. BUT, if you go to your C.O. or NCO in charge and disclose your problem, then you will be helped. Forthrightness is the key. He will not get in trouble for seeking help, He must do this immediately because if he waits until urinalysis testing, then they will not take his claims seriously. Good luck to the both of you.

Your boyfriend can not be put back in jail for seeking help if he does it right, He needs to make the arrangements with where ever he’s going to go and get them to contact his parole officer, That way the officer will know that this is legitimate and be able to notify the court of why he’s not where he’s supposed to be. That would preclude him from being re-arrested for violating his parole. Most drug rehabs are at least 4 to 6 weeks if not longer. The longer they are the more chance of the person really making that change for good. So have him make the arrangements and than have them contact his PO.

If he is up front and honest with is parole officer he will not receive any additional punishment, such as being sent back to jail. In fact, his parole officer may even be able to help him get into a drug rehab facility. Being on parole is a sort of “life rehabilitation” on its own, and your boyfriend going to rehab, is furthering what the state is trying to accomplish by letting him have parole to begin with. This is since him being clean and sober is likely to only have a positive impact on his life and make him less likely to commit a crime again – especially if he was in for a drug related crime to begin with.
