Is it possible for Dyslexia to get more severe over the years?
I have a mild case of Dyslexia, but it seems that recently, it’s getting worse. Is that possible? Could Dyslexia get more severe over time?

There are different underlying causes of dyslexia. One commonly undiagnosed contributing factor is a visual efficiency deficit. Compensating for this kind of deficit can be more difficult as time goes on. Most visual efficiency deficits are correctable with therapy. I would definitely recommend getting a developmental vision evaluation. You can find more information at http://www.childrensvision.com and board-certified developmental optometrists in your area at http://www.covd.org . At the very least, a developmental vision evaluation will rule out vision as a contributing factor to your dyslexia and you can look elsewhere for remediation. Visual efficiency skills are *not* evaluated in regular eye exams, whether by an optometrist or opthalmologist. That is why these problems are so frequently undiagnosed.

It’s possible. There are a number of things you might want to do. I’d suggest getting your vision checked, for one, as it’s possible you might have a problem with your eyes: it depends on your age. That’s “just-in-case” — it’s probably not that, but just in case it is, you want to know. You might also check out http://www.irlen.com — about half of people with dyslexia find that a simple, cheap colored sheet over what they read helps them, and that might help you.
If you haven’t checked it out, you might want to look into getting books from Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic. http://www.rfbd.org. You might find it easier to learn through listening.

When we go to school when we are younger we learn how to cope to deal with dyslexia. We learn how to mask it. If for some reason you have stopped school for awhile and have just gone back all these things we learned when we were younger will have to be relearned. Also I find my dyslexia gets worst when I am tired. It gets really frustrating.
