Can you recommend a doctor for my child who I believe has aspergers/autism?
I believe my 4 year old has aspergers. I am getting to the point where I am very fed up and would like to have him diagnosed and perhaps get some major help.
I live in the Chicago area and am having a hard time finding a good doctor who specializes in this. Can anyone give me any names/numbers/websites that I can go to to try and find a doctor?

I live in Libertyville and my aunt took my cousin to see a nutritionist specializing in holistic and natural supplements after being through doctor after doctor. He’s now on a few supplements with a specific diet and it’s helped. If it doesn’t take care of it, call your local school district and see what types of resources they can offer or head start programs or even how they would evaluate him if he were a student there in kindergarten so you can know what to expect.

Go out NOW and buy the book by Jenny McCarthy. You can bring them out of it if you start early enough. Diet helps REALLY get the book read it. Please don’t leave your child it their own little world. I wish I had the chance when my son was young he is 18 now and lives in a world of his own with no friends just a family and I don’t what we will do when we die. Please get the book! They need to see a neurosurgeon I believe

A pediatric neurologist or a developmental psychologist can help you get an accurate dx. Is there a state agency for disabled children, or an early intervention program? They vary from state to state, in California we have regional centers that test and evaluate kids who are at risk. good luck, having the right dx can make a difference in the services he can get at school.

I would highly recommend the OASIS website ( http://www.udel.edu/bkirby/asperger/ ) as a great starting point — hosted by author Barbara Kirby of the OASIS Guide to Aspergers Syndrome ( http://tinyurl.com/2askdh ) and is an exellent resource for parents in your situation.
The OASIS website has lists of clinicians, support groups and other resources on Aspergers Syndrome.
If you don’t find a doctor of your liking on this website, then I would also suggest you check out the Oasis message board and check the current postings in the ” Support Groups/ Professionals” section or just post your own query.
