Any veterinarians out here? What can cause bowel incontinence in a cat??
My cat is 15 years old and has sporatic bowel incontinence 4 times in the last month. She doesn’t even know poop is coming out! (it is NOT behavioral). Her geriatric profile a few days ago showed she had the blood work/labs of a 2 year old cat. My vet could give no answers.

sometimes its breed
manx cats often have this problem – the spinal deformity that results in them being “tailless” also causes this problem occassionally..sometimes its mental – himalayans and persians are known to have issues with this mentally
feed a better food – one with NO filler – you will have less poops too!

The first thing you have to do is look at the cat’s age. Quite frequently, old cats (like old people) lose some control over those “muscles” and so they experience the incontinence. I had a cat who had both fecal and urinary incontinence, but that was due to a spinal injury. So mostly, I would just say the poor baby is old. Just clean her up and take care of her. I took care of my cat for two years with the same issue, but hers was daily. Good luck! I hope she gets better soon,and that she keeps on giving you love for a very long time.
