What would the cops do if a person is willing to take a breathalyzer but not their new blood test?
I don’t worry about getting HIV from the breathalyzer, but
being pricked with a needle by a person who is not a
health worker gives me the jitters!

If you are referring to the recent article from Idaho, they only give the blood test to those who refuse the breath test.
“Once they’re back on patrol, they will draw blood of any suspected drunk driver who refuses a breath test.”

In the states that allow blood tests, they are a back-up to a breathalyzer. The police won’t use the blood test unless you refuse to take a breatalyzer. They can’t force you to blow into a tube, but they can forcibly restrain you to get your blood.
