Triphala: Ayurvedic Daily Tonic
Triphala is one of the most commonly used herbal mixtures in Ayurvedic medicine and I love it because it is easy to express, it is a cure for many diseases. The three fruits contained in Triphala, haritaki, Amalaki and Bibhitaki, each corresponding to one of the three humors or doshas of Indian Ayurvedic medicine.
According to Ayurvedic theory, the body of the three doshas Vata, or the “wind”, the mind and the nervous system, Pitta or “fire” corresponds, responsible for the metabolic changes, including the digestion and assimilation of food, and is also from Kapha or “water” or “slime”, the humor is responsible for all anabolic or building functions, such as the development of muscle and bone tissue. Each of the three herbal fruits in the blend Triphala promotes internal cleansing and removes toxins and all together, it acts as a full body tonic for the digestion and assimilation.
Triphala reduces cholesterol, improves circulation, lowers high blood pressure, improves liver function, and is anti-inflammatory and anti-viral. Triphala has also stimulate compounds anthroquinones bile flow and GI called peristalsis help. In addition, Triphala high vitamin C content, contains omega-6 and other important nutrients, making it a perfect tonic. Triphala is usually taken as a powder, by stirring in two or three grams of the powder with warm water and drink it every evening, or divided in three doses over the day. Who does not love the taste can to try in tablet or capsule form. I enjoy a glass of water, honey and Triphala every morning on an empty stomach and not a day without it.
