Understanding Alzheimers And Dementia

0

Alzheimers and dementia are strongly linked because Alzheimers disease is the most common type of dementia. Dementia is the constant evolution of the atrophy of the brain’s cognitive functions. In the case of Alzheimers, abnormal protein build up happen in the brain which interferes with its normal functions through interactions with the brain nerves and neurotransmitters that cause these elements to whither and die. Alzheimers and dementia are attributed with progressive memory loss and other functions that are attributed to brain deterioration. Natural brain atrophy and cognitive function loss is a normal experience by humans as we age. However, Alzheimers type of dementia is way beyond that of what is considered the norm. Alzheimers type dementia is extremely debilitating and the disease can run its course from as fast as 5 years but some cases stretch on to 20 years. The disruption of Alzheimers type dementia can be very confusing and difficult. What’s really hard to accept is that as of the moment, there are no known cures or successful treatments available for Alzheimers patients. Of all the types of dementia, only a very tiny percentage is reversible and Alzheimers is not one of them. Once it attacks, there can be no slowing or stopping down. All one can do is be prepared for the onslaught. In this case, it is also important the patient’s friends and loved one understand and know all about Alzheimers and dementia so that they too can be allowed to cope with this situation. If you suffer from the very early stages of Alzheimers type dementia, it can be very difficult for you to accept what is happening to you while you are aware of your situation. Often times, patients can create very difficult situations for themselves as well as for the people around them. For instance, people with Alzheimers type dementia can have the same conversation with the same person over and over again without realizing it. Perhaps a person with Alzheimers type dementia can forget that they have just previously called a loved one to tell them something only to put the phone down and call right back to talk about the exact same thing. Situations like these can cause difficulties that is why it is important for people with Alzheimers type dementia to have the proper care. Loss of correct judgment will inadvertently follow as the Alzheimers type dementia progresses so it might be prudent for patients to be supervised all the time. Eventually, patients will have to depend exclusively on specialized care for all their needs. This makes it important for patients and their loved ones to choose the right facility for this process. It is important that people with Alzheimers type dementia be treated with respect and dignity all throughout the duration of the disease. While the patient has not lost all ability to make judgments and remember important things, they should be consulted in terms of what facilities or type of professional care they think they would benefit from. As a loved one of someone who has Alzheimers type dementia, it can be very hard and painful to witness the progressing of the disease. This may cause some negative emotions and a lot of grief that may be unwittingly projected at the patient. However, at the onset of the disease, when the patient is still conscious and aware, they can go through an even more painful process of accepting their disease.

Fish Oil And Cholesterol – Use It As An Added Tool To Help Lower Your Cholesterol Level

0

Are you confused about “cholesterol”? Many people are and it’s no wonder as there is so much information both good and bad floating around particularly about fish oil and cholesterol. There have been hundreds of scientific and clinical tests done on the benefits of consuming fatty acids, which you get from certain foods including oily fish. The evidence gained from all these tests confirms that Omega-3 fatty acids help to control and balance cholesterol levels and promote better arterial and cardiac health. The reason DHA and EPA fatty acid sourced from cold-water oily fish or taken in supplement form are beneficial is because they lower triglyceride levels and boost your HDL (good cholesterol). Many people believe taking fish oil may increase their LDL (bad cholesterol), which on the surface can appear to be the case. However it’s not that simple. Lets examine this further without getting too technical:Triglycerides are very small particles called VLDL (very low-density lipoproteins) and IDL (intermediate-density lipoproteins)If your triglycerides are elevated, your VLDL and IDL will be raised. We know these two particles are the first ones to exit your liver, and LDL particles originate as VLDL. Because fish oil Omega-3 DHA and EPA fatty acids reduce triglycerides it causes a change in the particles from VLDL to LDL, which can increase your LDL reading. Normal LDL cholesterol is not measured it is calculated which means it can be inaccurate depending on your HDL and triglyceride average numbers. So don’t stress if you notice your LDL reading increase slightly after starting on fish oil, as long as you’re triglycerides reduce significantly and your HDL increases your on the right track. The evidence is now beyond doubt that eating oily fish or taking supplements with the correct balance of DHA and EPA Omega 3 fatty acids help to reduce triglycerides and reduces cholesterol buildup in arteries. Thus reducing the risk of stroke or heart attack.

When You Need Alzheimer’s Help and Senior Home Health Care

0

Alzheimer’s disease spares no one, even the best and brightest and affects both men and women in their 60s.   Without Alzheimer’s help, life would be intolerable for the family with a loved one afflicted with the disease. Fortunately, senior home health care providers have trained caregivers who can manage the care needed by the afflicted to make life easier for family members by providing a support system.

What Is Alzheimer’s Disease?

Alzheimer’s Disease is a form of dementia that is incurable.   It is estimated that 26. 6 million people worldwide have this degenerative disease.   It progresses to the point that the sufferers forget their names and past, including the people who love them.

If they are living on their own, they can have accidents, miss their medication, and even wander off somewhere.   Alzheimer’s help for seniors with this disease can lessen the family’s worries about their loved one. The help they get includes initiating mind games like chess, exercise and dancing, and the preparation of balanced meals.

Where Can One Get Alzheimer’s Help?

Agencies providing senior home health care services have trained caregivers to provide the assistance needed by the families. Because the care giving is done by shifts, it does not take a toll on the health of the care providers, but it does affect the physical and emotional health of a family member who cares for the patient all the time.

There are various reputable agencies online, which you can check out.   They must be fully licensed to operate, must be bonded, and have reliable staff.   If you need Alzheimer’s help, you have to inform the agency ahead of time or give them 24 hours notice.   They have to match the health caregiver with the needs of the client or the family members.

Cost of Home Care

If the health insurance covers it, get a long-term care but if this is not feasible, you will have shell out $19 an hour for a home health aide.    For four hours, that will add up to $76 a day and $2,280 per month, or $27,350 a year.

If the patient has Medicare and health insurance, these will help lower expenses. Check out the agency’s policy on payments and if this is Medicare certified.   If home care is your doctor’s orders, Medicare will pay part of the cost for home care.   Contact your local government health agency about health benefits for the aged.

Going to a Senior Home

Alzheimer’s patients placed in nursing homes pay more for the service because the bill includes the use of the facilities and lodging and expert nursing care.   If you are placing your parents in a senior home, check out the following:

·         Location – Is it far from the noise of traffic and is it accessible?

·         Facilities – Are the facilities geared for the use of the elderly?

·         Staff – Is there a doctor on call 24/7?

·         Privacy – Do patients have privacy during treatment and care? Do workers knock on doors before entering patients’ rooms?

·         Atmosphere – Do the patients look happy?

·         Food – Does it look appetizing?

If you do not feel comfortable about the looks of the senior home, get Alzheimer’s help and still provide the best service for your loved ones. You can always check on them and have time for them everyday when you come home from work.

Alzheimer’s help and senior home heath care are synonymous with quality care. This is assured by The Golden Age Resource.
