Ayurveda approach to Genital Herpes
0Ayurveda approach to Genital Herpes
Dosha theory which help in diagnosis of the diseases
According to ayurveda three doshas or three energetic forces control the activities of the body. These doshas are
Vata
Pitta
Kapha
VATA: The Vata dosha is the most important of the three doshas. It has been said in ayurveda classic books that ” pitta , Kapha and all other body tissues are considered lame without assistance of VATA . ” Vata dominates the lower part of the body, which is below umbilicus. The movements of body fluid, metabolism, elimination of waste products, semen ejaculation, pushing the fetus out of body, relaying stimulus to brain and response to organs and tissues, heart beat, respiration, body movements etc are assisted by VATA.
Vata dominated regions are intestines, lumbar region, ears, bones and skin.
Vata gets vitiated due to following reasons.
Controlling natural urges like urination, defecation, hunger, thirst, etc.
Late nights.
Irregular food habits.
Talking in a high pitch.
Over physical and mental exertion.
Consumption of spicy, dry, bitter foods.
Exposure to severe dry and cold climate.
The opposites of above-mentioned reason normalize the vitiated vata.
PITTA: The pitta dosha assists the body fire or Agni, which plays a major role in body’s metabolic activities. The locations where pitta dominates are digestive system, skin, eyes, brain, and blood. Pitta maintains body temperature. The secretions like digestive juices pigments like melanin (bhrajaka pitta), hemoglobin (ranjaka pitta) are all types of pitta.
Pitta is dominant in regions of Umbilicus, stomach, sweat, lymph, blood, eyes and skin.
Vata gets vitiated due to following reasons.
Excess consumption of spicy, sour, salty foods.
Consuming alcohol in excess.
Over exposure to hot sunny climate.
Short temperedness.
Using dried vegetables.
Indigestion of food.
The opposites of above-mentioned reason normalize the vitiated pitta.
KAPHA: Kapha provides bulk to body, lubrications, moistness, fertility, stability, strength, and memory. Helps in binding process wherever necessary. This is heaviest of all doshas.
Kapha dominated regions are chest, neck, head, stomach, body fat, nose and tongue
Kapha gets vitiated due to following reasons.
Sleeping in daytime.
Consuming sweets , chilled food, in excess.
Consuming fish, sesame, sugarcane, milk and milk products.
The opposites of above-mentioned reason normalize the vitiated kapha.
When these doshas are in balanced condition the body remains healthy. If these doshas get imbalanced the body succumbs to diseases. Doshas get imbalanced frequently due to change in climate, seasons, lifestyles, diet etc. The treatment is to bring back the doshas to normalcy and expel the toxin or ama produced during the imbalanced condition.
Causes of Genital Herpes
Herpes is caused by a virus the herpes simplex virus (HSV), which belongs to the same family of viruses that cause chickenpox. There are two types of herpes simplex viruses
Herpes simplex type 1 (HSV-1) and mostly causes oral herpes
Herpes simplex type 2 (HSV-2). And mostly causes genital herpes
However, both type-1 and type-2 can occur in the genitals, oral area or both.
Due to unhealthy life styles and diet the delicate balance between doshas get disturbed. This disturbs the body fire or Agni.
(Agni is the body fire, which is responsible for transformation of one substance to another. It breaks down the food substances, eliminates toxins and wastes, maintains body temperature, and resists the invasion of microbes by maintaining strong body immunity.
The body fire, which is assisted by balanced doshas, digests the food completely to form Pakwa Anna rasa (the liquid form of food which is completely digested by digestive enzymes), which is ready to get absorbed by body tissues. According to ayurveda Pakwa Anna Rasa nourishes the body and its components to keep the body devoid of diseases. But when body fire is impaired there will be an incomplete digestion of food forming Apakwa Rasa (indigested food). The indigested food fails to nourish the body components leading to lowered body resistance. )
The disturbed Agni fails to digest the food and toxins get accumulated in body due to improper metabolism. Accumulation of toxins reduces the body immunity and paves the way for invasion by microbes.
When a person who has low immunity comes in contact with HSV virus, he/she gets the genital or oral herpes.
Unhealthy lifestyle
Over eating
Sleeping in afternoons.
Over physical exertion.
Over mental exertion
Consuming food frequently even when not hungry.
Constant exposure to hot sunny climates
Unhealthy diet
Excessive consumption of
Salty, sour, hot, spicy food.
Sour curds
Alcohol.
Cheese
Charred and overcooked food.
Sesame, Bengal gram, horse gram, sesame oil, rice flour, garlic, fish.
Opposite foods
Curds, salt, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, sour fruits, meat, prawn, pork, should not be consumed with milk. The above-mentioned foods should not be consumed by mixing one item with another.
Sprouts, honey and milk should not be consumed with meat and fish.
Fish & milk: fish &sugarcane juice; jaggery & pork; honey & pork; milk & mango; banana & milk; are opposite foods.
The Transmission Of genital Herpes
A person can get genital herpes in following conditions
If he is sexual active and when he performs sex (oral or genital) with infected partners.
A person who has oral herpes transmits herpes to genital organs of a partner during oral sex and a person who has genital herpes transmits this to his partner during coitus when they have a genital contact.
The disease gets transmitted when mucous membrane comes in contact with infected area.
The disease gets transmitted mostly during active phase. But it may spread even during asymptomatic (when person is free of symptoms for a particular duration) phase. The virus needs a fluid media for its transportation. The body fluids like saliva, semen, vaginal tract secretions etc. Mucous membranes in mouth, vagina, urethra or open wounds facilitate the virus invasion due to their moistness.
In Genital herpes there is an imbalance of all three doshas (VATA, PITTA, KAPHA), which in turn vitiate lasika (lymph), blood (rakta), muscle (mamsa) and skin (twacha).
The imbalanced doshas vitiate skin and the immunity of skin cells is lowered. The virus attacks these weak cells and starts exhibiting symptoms on affected area.
Local symptoms
Pricking sensation
Edema
Pain
Feeling of constriction
A sensation of ant creeping
Many small eruptions gathering in a small area.
These eruptions or blisters burst soon with
exudates.
These blisters will have different colors according to involvement of doshas. (Blackish red or blue in vata, red, yellow, copper colored in pitta, shades of white in kapha).
The weakened body immune system tries to resist the virus invasion but fails to achieve the goal. In this futile attempt the following systemic symptoms are exhibited.
Systemic symptoms
Fever
Weakness
Indigestion
Impaired bowels
Increased frequency of urination.
Body pain.
Increased thirst.
Imbalanced vata causes the symptoms like pain, swelling and body ache
The imbalanced pitta and vitiated blood and skin cause
Blisters,
Change the color of skin,
Cause burning sensation, and fever.
The imbalanced kapha and vitiated lymph cause itching, tingling sensation.
After the first attack the virus moves from skin through the nerve paths to base of the nerve and becomes inactive. Now the herpes infected person will be devoid of all symptoms. But the imbalance of doshas still persists.
Reactivation of Virus to cause outbreaks
At unpredictable times, the virus becomes active. It multiplies and resurfaces on skin by traveling through the nerve path and exhibits the symptoms locally. The severity of symptoms of out break depends on the strength of body immunity.
The pelvis or shroni, nerves and skin are dominated by vata. When vata gets vitiated due to precipitating factors, it reactivates the virus dormant in base of nerve end and the virus travel through nerve paths to reach the skin surface.
Precipitating Factors
As we know the outbreaks have few precipitating factors like
Excessive exposure to sun.
Illness,
Poor diet,
Emotional stress
Physical stress,
Friction,
Steroids
Menstruation.
Emotional stress.
Genital trauma and intercourse.
Repeated infections such as a cold or pneumonia.
These factors increase vata and increased vata activates the virus, which is dormant.
Low Immunity The systemically imbalanced doshas interfere with the body metabolism by vitiating the body fire (agni). This leads to indigestion and malassimilation of nutrients, which in turn causes poor immunity. Due to decreased immunity the body fails to offer resistance to outbreaks.
Ayurveda Tips to avoid outbreaks
Avoid
Spicy, sour, fried and junk food, which aggravates vata.
Precipitating factors.
Sleeping in afternoon.
Meat products over fried or deep fried in oil or fat.
Charred and overcooked food.
Consuming opposite food like fish and milk etc
Physical exertion after a meal
Taking bath immediately after exercise or heavy outdoor work.
Include honey, pomegranate, and fruits of Emblica officinalis, legumes, dates and raisins in your diet.
Practice Yoga and Meditation to control emotional disturbances

Brushing And Flossing Can Reduce Dementia Risk
0The participants of the study are aged above 60 and they were put up to many different memory testes. The study was recently published in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry. The researcher researched over 2,300 men and women to find out the bacteria that cause periodontitis, or periodontal disease. It is actually a severe form of gum disease, which makes the teeth loose by receding the gum.
The people who had the highest level of bacteria had twice the chance of failing the memory test based on mental arithmetic. The three word sequence couldn’t be recalled by participants who had very high level of gum disease causing bacteria.
“A growing body of evidence supports exploration of a possible association between poor oral health and dementia,” concluded the researchers. At this time, they are not sure why gum disease is linked to dementia. However, the bacteria that lurk in our oral cavities can damage arteries – and arterial damage has been linked to dementia. Incidentally, other studies show that poor oral hygiene can contribute to heart disease, diabetes, and low sperm counts! Research shows that people with gum disease are more likely to suffer from a narrowing of the arteries, which can cause high blood pressure, stroke, and heart attack.
The bacteria associated with periodontal disease not only damage arteries but also cause inflammation, which has been linked to diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. Some scientists speculate that the bacteria enter the bloodstream in the mouth. From there, they activate the immune system. Immune cells attack the foreign invaders, causing inflammation. Over time, this inflammation can damage arterial walls. This type of damage could account for problems with the cardiovascular system as well as dementia. Blood carries nutrients to our organs and carries toxic substances away. When the flow of blood is impeded to a certain organ, then problems begin to arise with that organ. In the case of the brain, these problems may include memory problems or other forms of dementia.
The point that is made here is do not forget to brush and floss your teeth regularly and especially at night. There also dental irrigation devices, these devices can reach pockets that cannot be reached by brushing or flossing. By following a regular routine of dementia prevention process you can one can reduce the risk of dementia. These easy exercises increase the blood flow to the brain and improves the cardiovascular fitness too. A sharp mind can be achieved by a healthy flow of blood to the brain.

Brrrrr! Chilblains! No Worry, Homeopathy is at Hand
0Chilblains, could pathology with such a cute name be all that bad? Well, it is only one step away from frost bite, so precautions are necessary. I live in Buffalo where the winters are a delight, but too often we become complacent with winter apparel. So preparation is essential.
As in most illnesses, the best cure is to not allow it to happen in the first place. Dressing appropriately and retiring to the indoors before getting too cold is wise. Another safeguard is to eat a diet high in good quality fat such as butter, whole raw milk, whole cheese and cod liver oil. These foods are vital for the health of those who live in cold regions. Think Scandinavia.
If you get chilblains in spite of safeguards, the most important primary measure is to rub snow on it. This promotes blood to the area that will in turn awaken circulation. After a more rigorous flow is restored, the person should be brought into a warm room and given hot drinks, warm blankets and hot water bottles to conserve warmth and energy.
The next step is to use a tincture made from the berry of the Black Bryony, Tamus communis. It can be applied gently with a clean cloth. If blisters form and break, then soaking a sterile gauze in Calendula tincture and wrapping the area with it will aid in the prevention of infection. In fact Calendula is nearly infallible for addressing superficial infections of any sort.
Next, choose one of the homeopathic remedies to be taken internally. The best way to administer these is to give a dose every hour when the symptoms are quite severe and open up the frequency to every three to five hours with less severity. Give three pills as a dose.
The first remedy to offer is Ferr phos 6x, for the potential inflammation. Three pills should be administered in a cup of hot water and sipped every few minutes. Then repeat throughout the day (as explained above) and perhaps subsequent days, until there is relief. This remedy can be used in tandem with one of the remedies outlined below.
When the skin is inflamed, itches intensely, and is made worse from heat, such as in a hot bed or in front of a fire, think of Pulsatilla 30. A distinguishing factor may also be that the skin has a purplish hue.
If the affliction is of the feet, toes or hands, which are made worse in the cold and comforted by warmth, then give Agaricus 30.
Sometimes, chilblains can become suppurating, and the pain intense, with tenderness at the slightest touch. This is a call for Hepar sulph 30.
And true to “like cures like”, the foundation upon which homeopathy is founded, Rhus tox is potentized and made into a homeopathic remedy from poison ivy. Hence, it’s invaluable for poison ivy –like symptoms. So, in chilblains when the skin is blanketed in blisters that are like poison ivy, Rhus tox will antidote these symptoms and offer relief. Watch out for a dark red inflammation that is made worse when in a cool, damp environment. This is a key note for the use of this remedy.
If you are left with any lingering doubts as to the ability of this powerful medicine, the next time you or a loved one has a case of the chilblains, try these remedies. It may convert you to a homeopathy enthusiast like millions of others throughout the world. Homeopathy is not medicine of side effects, but medicine of rational thought and it comes to the aid of even the most charmingly named illnesses.

To Erase Harmful Costs, Provide Hands-On Experiences Before Offerings Are Sold
0Hands-on experiences benefit stakeholders and organizations. The experiences allow potential beneficiaries, customers, and users to see if the offering is right for them.
While such experiences may drive away some who are mismatched, those for whom the offering is a good fit will be encouraged to act. In addition, during the hands-on experiences, you can observe any habits or misunderstandings that could lead to later accidents. You can alert the person to the risk before they use the offering on their own. Further, you can simulate accident conditions, as the airlines do for their pilots, to help prepare the beneficiary, customer, or user to avoid accidents. Finally, you can discuss with people what their reactions to the experiences are and help them to adopt better ways of preparing for future risks.
Many people who provide inexpensive or free offerings will shudder at this suggestion. How can they possibly afford to provide such hands-on experiences? There’s always a way. You just have to look for it.
Start by considering the roles that volunteers can play. Many organizations with public purposes are interested in promoting greater health and safety. If your offering normally has a positive purpose that is undermined only through misunderstandings or misuse, you may well find that existing organizations are interested in adding relevant training for your beneficiaries, customers, and users.
Here’s an example: A new type of defibrillator may make it possible for those with limited medical knowledge to save lives. Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) determine what level of electric shock is required to help the struggling heart beat normally. No longer do you have to know how to interpret the heart’s patterns before using such a defibrillator.
Since AEDs were developed, the Red Cross stepped in to provide training programs for AEDs on the job and other public places. Such training helps the manufacturers to sell these items, and we can probably assume that the manufacturers assisted the Red Cross in designing its training.
From there, think about having beneficiaries, customers, and users receive some of this training at public expense. If the purpose is one that benefits all of society, the community may pick up some or all of the tab. In some communities, for instance, part of the driver’s education training is provided as part of the high school program. Typically, families are expected to pay for at least the behind-the-wheel training.
Driver’s education courses taken in high schools also provide another model: Ask beneficiaries, customers, and users to pay some of the cost of providing the experience. Although this may seem like a way to drive your audience away, the result can instead be an accelerator that makes these prior experiences more valuable and enjoyable.
Here’s an example: Everyone who buys a sports car wants to take it out for a spin before purchasing. Provide enough test drives, and you’ve given away more value in free joyrides than you gained in selling expensive cars.
Rent a local race track and provide racing instruction for those who want to pay for the experience, and you’ll soon have lots more people who know how to safely travel at high speeds in your sports cars. Once they’ve gotten the bug and know how to do it, these drivers are more likely to buy . . . and be safer drivers.
Don’t forget to consider if beneficiaries, customers, and users want to help each other gain the relevant experience. How can you provide incentives for that to occur?
For instance, many people learn subjects better if they teach someone else. But someone who is a new learner will be reluctant to take on the teaching role without materials that provide easy-to-follow steps for instructors and learners.
What if you don’t have the resources to create such materials? You can lower the cost dramatically by sponsoring a competition. By substituting recognition for compensation in appealing to developers, you will probably end up with better materials and plenty of positive publicity that will encourage people to use the materials.
