If you have a stent that is drug coated will you take plavix and aspirin forever?
Is it safe to stop plavix if you had a stent put in 2 years ago? My husband’s Dr. wants to take hime off plavix and just have him take an aspirin daily. I disagree and think he should err on the side of caution and take both. Does anyone know for sure?

If your husband has diagnosis of arteriosclerosis heart disease and had symptoms;chest pain or heart attack and the stent install for this heart condition then he should on antiplatelete drugs for rest his life,because these drugs not only for prevent the clots forming in the stent side and also for prevent further forming of arteriosclerotic plaqe which contain of platelet and white cells on other side.Since the plavix is expensive drugs and asa is much cheapper and both has the antiplatelete action some doctor just stop the plavix.Two medicines is much stronger then one but plavix has a lot of side effect and need close to monitor sometime for avoid those dangerous side effect rather only take Asa.Two years plavix taking is enough for the stent alone.

Tough question! I have 3 stents and take plavix and aspirin every day. My stents are not drug coated though, and I was told I would have to take Plavix the rest of my life.
Its not going to hurt to take the Plavix if he will continue to give him a prescription.But this is one of those questions you have to answer for yourself. How much trust do you have in your cardiologist. As for me, I agree with you. Err on the side of caution.
