I need some help. My best friend is in perimenopause and hasn’t had a period since the beginning of December?
She says she ovulated around the 26th of Jan and had sex on the 28th. . . now she is experiencing very light intermittent bleeding and her breasts are swollen. She also says she is extremely fatigued. She thinks she may be pregnant. I told her to take a pregnancy test but I was intrigued by all the combination of symptoms and thought I would get some feedback. I just think it’s menopause. . . any thoughts?

I think it’s time for an at home pregnancy test to settle the issue. She may be, she may not be. It would be a bit early in a pregnancy to see any sort of physical changes, but the spotting isn’t necessarily a good thing to see if she were. So the first thing to do is test. If it’s positive, she needs to get off her feet and call to be seen by a gynecologist. It’s also quite possible that it is just the usual hormonal disruption of menopause. The unpredictability of things is why menopausal women do sometimes get those little surprise bundles of joy. Unfortunately, without a test, nobody can really even give an educated guess.
