How I Survived Stage IV Renal Cell Carcinoma Kidney Cancer
I made this video with my dad, Robert Gallner (call him Bob), who is a survivor of Stage IV Renal Cell Carcinoma. He discusses his experience with the disease beginning with his first diagnosis, through the removal of several tumors and a kidney, Interleukin-2 (IL-2) therapy, and remission. He also shares insight on how to achieve inner peace and spirituality with techniques like visualization and meditation to remain positive through this painstaking process and eliminate fear. Update: Bob was diagnosed with RCC again in his liver and had major surgery after the making of this video. The surgery went really well and he is recovering wonderfully, a true survivor. These past few years have been nerve racking at times but I can honestly say my father’s cancer has brought our whole family together and we have never been closer or had so much fun together! Who are we to say what is good or bad? See the good in every situation and your life will be bliss. Circumstances do not matter. Only your state of being matters. Cancer is a challenge, but it is one we can overcome. For more information you can visit the Kidney Cancer Association on the web at: www. WOW….what a truly inspiring man. I am a fellow survivor 6.5 years. You covered everything and did it with such inspiration…you are that Roman Warrior!! I remember using a tape called Cancer Wars..another great visualization tool . Thank you for sharing and I pray that you have no more reoccurrences and that you are doing well each and everyday!

Awesome stuff Bob! I am a survivor (2 1/2 years now cancer free). Your story is VERY similar to mine. Nephrectomy, IL-2, Avastin, Thoracic surgery, and Sutent. My last 6 month scan showed no change.
Your story is inspiring. I wish I would have submitted mine.
I won a surfing trophy between IL-2 treatments also.

Incredible story. I’m studying the formation of cancer in my anatomy and physiology class. I learned about the dif stages of cancer. And I searched youtube for stage 4 survivors to help me study. I wish good luck to anyone going through a difficult time like this. Like Bob said… envision and believe and you will be surprised what might happen!

I can relate to your story I myself beat kidney cancer that spread to my lung and beat it with IL2 (Low Dose) along with a vaccine called Trovax. The vaccine trained my T cells to recognize the cancer as an foreign invader and the IL2 boosted my immune system to handle the task. I like the part of your story about visualization which i used ans a very useful tool in my fight to beat cancer I hope everyone can take from your story the courage to fight and win against kidney cancer.

Thanks Bob. My brother was diagnosed with renal Carcinoma about 3 months ago. By the time it was diagnosed it had already spread to his adrenal gland and hip. He also had his kidney removed so we thought great only two tumours left to beat. He had been told that his cancer was not curable but was treatable at this stage. Unfortunately whilst recovering in hospital they found another tumour on his brain and was told that he had around three months left to live. Your story has given me hope. ty.x

Thanks for the inspirational video. I had my right kidney removed in 2004. I thought it was done, especially after five year. Then my Dr. found a spot on each lung. They were both removed last Monday. The Oncologist told me I’m now stage IV with nothing to treat. The surgeon thought that I would receive preventative chemo, the Oncologist says there is no research to support that.
Have you made any lifestyle changes? -

I dont know if they answered you but we found out my dad is stage IV 2 days ago. My mom has been through this with so many people. One stage they go through is like an angry stage. Where they start to get upset and mad. They also will push you away but they don’t mean to. Don’t take it too personally. But it is normal for many no matter what type of cancer they have.
