Can you get your belly button pierced with Crohn’s Disease?
I just found out I have Crohn’s Disease and I want to get my belly button pierced. Is it possible for me to do this?

Hello there fellow Crohnie…I also have Crohn’s Disease and I have mine pierced…as long as you’re not a immune suppressant drug(Remicade, Humira, Prednisone, Entocrot, etc)…yes, you can…if you’re on a suppressant than you can also, but I would not advise it due to you’re more risk of a infection. Plus, you’d have to clean it more than if you were not on a suppressant..

hi lemon, If you are taking any kind of immunosuppressant like Entocort, 6MP, Imuran, Remicade, or Humira, you should check with your doctor b/c these treatments lower your immune system which can make you catch any type of virus or infection faster than a healthy person.
I’ve had Crohn’s for 28 yrs. & that is what my GI told me. I don’t like the idea of any foreign object go through my belly button seeing as a crohnie I get turned inside and out, poked, prodded, and am hospitalized alot. In which case, earrings, piercings of any sort, as well as watches, and jewelry have to be removed.

One other thing, some piercing/tattoo places do not sterilize their equipment and that can be serious trouble for folks w/IBD such as Hepatitis, infections, etc. If you do decide to go through with it, make sure it’s reputable and that they follow the state guidelines for health and safety rules.

Sorry to hear about your diagnoses! I have Crohn’s disease and recently had my belly button pierced for the second time(first one grew over). I am currently not on any drug treatments for my CD at this time b/c I am in remission. I did ask my doctor about it before I made the appointment. I would recommend you do the same. Some medications are known as “immune suppressants” and they would not allow your immune system to function properly; therefore; you would not be able to fight off any infections that could occur. I don’t think you want to contract flesh eating disease on top of your CD. Not fun!
