Aspergers Syndrome and Discrimination we are a Race
It appears to me that Aspies are the new Lepers if you like. We simply are discriminated against for being different. Same as gays and black people and other disabled people were in the past. NTs need someone to have a go at who is not like them. Unfortunatly we make easy targets as we are kind people who are very vulnerable in society. Unlike gays and blacks we are not very outspoken. Gays soon got support because of their social abilities and quick wit. Black People also had extreme confidence and made their voice known. Other disabled people have advokates etc. But it appears us Aspies have to do it alone!!!

Just wanted to post a second thought here. I met and married my partner in my early thirties. It is still possible to meet someone and get along with someone, it just takes a long time to sometimes find the right person, and believe me, I waited a LONG time to find the right person.
Good luck.
I know our society is against autistic peoples because they are all about being social and stupid. I hate all of hat social nonsense.

You have a voice right here. Sure, there are idiots out there, but you’re you’re making a difference just by being here on YouTube and letting people know about AS. Not only that, I’ve seen you support other people with AS too, and that’s fantastic.
Keep making noise. Understanding dissolves ignorance.
I love your Doctor Who speculation / spoilers too.

Great video. People have such a poor understanding of mental health (I’m bipolar/personality disorder) issues. Its invisable and it doesn’t help that almost every TV show I watched this week featured someone with a mental illness commiting a crime.
Personally, I hate being treated “special” even though I know the people mean well. It’s like people forget I can monitor my issues and establish my boundries.
It’s great hearing you be so open and sharing about aspergers

Hi Steve….I think you are right, and in the past, people with Asperger Syndrome might have been treated meanly, called nerds or brains or dweebs. They definately stuck out in some ways associated with intelligence and social skills, but now I really believe the world is awake and sees that people with Asperger Syndrome are going to own the world! (Bill Gates) – also people with Asperger Syndrome are better than NTs in so many ways -

I have to disagree on your view that aspies are the new gays or blacks as I think that comparison is just too extreme. Homosexuals and People of Colour had to endure physical abuse and segregation. I’ve never heard of such things happening to Aspies. Sure, I’ve heard of isolated things like little Autistic girls getting kicked out of girl scouts in the USA but nothing comparable to the struggle of the Homosexuals or Blacks other than the odd derogatory attitude/slur.

Hey Steve, I have AS and I totally agree with you. I’ve looked online of Aspies saying that they love their “disability” and I believe they use their AS as an ego-trip. I never did that but I used to think people owed me for a while but the more I went on I realized the world doesn’t work that way. In the real world, you HAVE to comply with other people and do what they want sometimes. As for my hopes of having a fun, active, and successful social life…is on hold for i don’t know how long. LOL

the hardest part is when its in the family. It seems everyone except my mom has a problem with it. Especially my grandma and G Aunt Joan. They both think I’m undiciplined and say I need to be hit… the worst part is IM 14! My grandma says I’m heartless, My G Aunt Joan (who lives in Mississippi) calls me a smartass who needs to be hit, and my so called friends treat me like I’m 5. Oh yeah and apparently the question Why isn’t under the 1st amendment at home.

I just read one of my friend’s livejournal entries and he was calling his friend an “assburger.” I didn’t think it was funny. This guy was basically making fun of a person who cannot relate to neurotypicals. I tried telling him about what Asperger’s is about but he probably won’t care.
I’m not sure if I’m Asp. but I don’t socalise and don’t like being around people.
