Anything to regret moving from United health care (PPO) plan to Pacificare (HMO) plan?
Anything to regret moving from United health care (PPO) plan (100/90) to Pacificare (HMO) plan for any coverages, lab works , facilities etc? Currently my wife is pregnant and expected in jan 2009. All our doctors (Primary care and gyno) are in-network of United health care and pacificare.

I personally LOVE HMOs. I never had a bad HMO Dr, and if you do, then just change Drs. I did have a bad HMO dentitst, but I changed and then the new one was fine. Your wifes pregnanacy will cost like $20 on an HMO. How can you beat that? I had major surgery and it cost me TEN DOLLARS. That is amazing. I love HMO plans. They get a bad rap because some Drs take advantage of them and make up extra charges in order to make money off them. There are crooks everywhere. Just find a different Dr if it feels odd to you and report that ‘odd’ Dr to your HMO to try to stop them from getting away with it. If they order tests you don’t need, ask you to come for mutliple appts that seem uneccessary, etc.
- They do that cause many people are willing to do what the Dr orders cause on an HMO it costs them nearly nothing, and the Dr gets paid by the insurance for it all, so a shady Dr CAN take advantage. But it doesnt happen often.Accepting HMO plans does not a bad Dr make.

I grew up with an HMO and loved it. As long as your hospitals and drs that you like are in the HMO then there shoul not be a problem. It is just if you want a specific dr or specialitst then you need to be referred.
