Doctor allows 60 grams at breakfast, 60-90 at lunch and dinner. School feels six carbs (90 grams one meal for an eight year old active boy (who hasnt gained any weight, in a year since diagnosis) is too much. I disagree. They can not even see that their menu that they serve to all children is almost 90 grams. He also only eats at meal times no snacks. We pick his menu based on carb intake. How do we get school to cooperate and not do their own thing. Also no one seems to want to assume responsibility. He is entitled to free lunch. We can not afford to feed him as healthy as school does
We also feel he should not have 2 feel left out ordifferent than other children. He ‘s allowed occasional sweets. Just small portions . We feel if we give him a stigmatism about not being able to have this stuff, he will overindulge when he starts making his own decisions. We dont let him eat whatever and counter with more insulin. Has not gained weight and levels are controlled.
