Does anyone know any home remedies for getting rid of them. The male cat (titten ) is his name, He dont seem to have them as bad as my female ( layla ) is her name. Layla seems to be very irritated at everything around her. She gets real grumpy, And she is always loving and playful. Titten , well he just antagonizes her. He dont seem to be irritated as much as my girl. Please if anyone knows something that will help my girl please let me know. Thank you And Layla thanks you to.

Take them to the vet for a “checkup” and let the vet know that you believe the cats have tapeworms, the over the counter stuff is very hard to administer and the vets know what they are actually doing.
When I had Bridget fixed, they gave her a shot for the worms, and she has been happy and so much more pleasent ever since.

Owning pets is expensive — just like having CHILDREN — and you have to do what has to be done.
Tape worms are serious. They live in the intestines and steal the nutrition from the host body. Your cats can literally be starving to death now. Call your vet and get medicine!

Ok, so most people are in agreement that you need to get your cats to the vet. That is the correct answer. You need to find out if it is tapeworm, and also discuss flea control with your vet, or you will continue to have worms, or worse. Fleas can cause life-threatening diseases in cats. They need deworming, and flea control. Please, please, please do not use Bio spot, Zodiac, or Hartz. They are worthless and can be dangerous!!!!
Don’t listen to the people who recommended fresh garlic or tobacco. Both are toxic to animals, and you will wind up at the vet for a much more serious (and expensive) reason. Get your cats in to the vet or the local humane society. If you can’t afford that, find them new homes. This is the absolute basic care that they need, and they deserve to be taken care of.
I’m not sure what the temperament of your cats has to do with this post at all, except that it tells us something about them. It has no bearing medically on who is more affected, or who will get sicker. They both need to be treated.

I do not know a home remedy for tape worms…. you can try chewing tobacco it works for other types of worms.
It may be cheaper to go to the vet to have them treated… just make sure you get them both treated and clean the litter box very well and control fleas they carry the tapeworm segments back into their bodies.

No home remedies for Tape worms you have only 3 choices,Go to the vet to have them wormed or buy meds from vet 1 pill each is all you need,or Pet Smart or Petco has tape worm med you can buy over the counter. But if you don’t worm them soon they will become sick and start losing weight.and could possibly die.

are you sure its tape worms?
they can be affected by several
never tried it but on animals
but an old home remedy for worms in humans is lots of fresh garlic
sometimes it can upset the stomach or even give the runs
I think that’s the idea
most of the time the dewormer is more sure & faster
don’t want to use it too often though
the dewormer that is

There’s nothing you can do without giving them medication from a veterinarian.
The cost of your pet’s health care and medications is something that you MUST consider when choosing to keep them with you. It is part of being a pet owner.
It is cruel not to treat their illness. They suffer from it, physically and emotionally– just like we suffer. Eventually, it could take their lives.
Would you fail to get proper medication for your child’s illness because it is “so expensive”? Absolutely not. You should not do it with your pets, either.
If you really and truly cannot pay for it, talk to your veterinarian– some will set up payment plans with you to cover expenses. And, if you can’t do that, then contact your local Humane Society (NOT just any old shelter– it needs to be one with a medical facility) or ASPCA. They will treat the animals and once they are well you will be eligible to re-adopt them.
Good luck to you, Titten, and Layla.
PS: If the “Dewormer” you think about using is non-prescription, it would be safer not to do so. Over the counter medications such as flea collars and ‘de-wormers’ are almost always too harsh for the animals. They can make them sick, and have even caused deaths.

How do you know they have tape worms? They have to have their stools checked by a vet to determine which type of worms they might have. Did a vet tell you that?
There are no home remedies to get rid of worms. You need a medicine from the vet. They give you medicine according to the type of worm and the size of the cat. If you don’t allow a vet to treat them, they could both die.
If you don’t have the money, most vets will take a payment plan or they can tell you who will. If you can’t work out the money part, then you need to take the cats to a shelter or some where they can get help. You don’t want them to suffer with worms.
Please don’t take animals in unless you can afford the proper care and treatment for them.

I personally don’t understand why people feel the need to flame others for being poor. Plenty of poor people own animals and if they didn’t, we would have even more of them in shelters (or roaming the streets and helping the cat population go out of whack). And another thing, while we are in a pet friendly generation, you need to consider the fact that cats have survived a long time without any medical intervention. A poor home is better then no home. Haven’t people noticed the surplus of available strays?
Now as a vet tech, my advice is to call around your local vet clinics and see if they can direct you to someone that can help you out with the financial aspects of getting them treated. Also, you don’t have to go to a vet to figure out if a cat has tapeworms in most cases (unless they are still in the larvae stage). Tapeworms look like little pieces of rice in the stool. And they are caused by cats (and dogs) eating flea eggs. Also, there is an affordable way to treat fleas, but you still need to purchase advantage or frontline, but buy the tube individually and buy a large size (say for a medium size dog or larger) and you can use a syringe to get the proper dosage for both cats. This is a method that a clinic I worked for used to offer to poor people or those in cat rescue because the price difference in a cat size and a large dog size tube of advantage is small and you can get quite a few doses out of the largest advantage tube. And I agree with someone that posted earlier…don’t buy Hartz or any of those pet store brands. I’ve known a few kittens to have died because of them and I’ve seen cats get something similiar to a chemical burn in the area it’s been applied. Hope this info helps.
